Siding is the part of your house everyone sees, but it is not what keeps the water out. The house wrap and flashing behind it do that. When those details are wrong, new siding just hides a wet wall. Every GCR siding job is built from the wall out.
What We Find Behind Old Siding
Rhode Island has a lot of older homes, and many have never had a proper water barrier. When the old siding comes off, this is what we usually find:
Missing or failed sill flashing lets water run into the wall below the window for years before anyone notices.
Torn, reverse-lapped or missing wrap means any water that gets behind the siding goes straight into the sheathing.
Where water collects and cannot drain, the sheathing breaks down first.
Vents, lights, hose bibs and wires through the wall that were never flashed or sealed.
How We Install Siding
- Remove and dispose of the old siding, including extra layers on older homes.
- Inspect the wall and show you what we find, with photos.
- Repair damaged sheathing, replacing only what is rotted or soft.
- Install a new water-resistive barrier, lapped shingle-style so water drains down and out.
- Flash every window, door and penetration and tie the flashing into the barrier.
- Install siding and trim to the manufacturer's specifications.
- Final walkthrough and cleanup.

What siding materials do you install?
Vinyl, fiber cement and cedar shingles. For vinyl we use CertainTeed products. We will walk you through the look, maintenance and cost of each and recommend what fits your house and budget.
Should new siding go over my old siding?
We usually recommend removing it. Taking the old siding off is the only way to see the sheathing, repair rot, and install a proper house wrap and flashing. Covering a wet or rotted wall just hides the problem.
What happens if you find rot when the old siding comes off?
We show you what we found with photos, explain what it means, and give you the price to fix it before we close the wall. We replace only what is damaged, not every sheet on the house.
Do you repair siding or only replace it?
Both. If the damage is limited and the rest of the siding is sound, a repair can be the right answer. If the siding is failing across the house or water is getting behind it, replacement is usually the better long-term value. We will tell you which one makes sense.
