Considering Renewal by Andersen or Pella?

Compare the Performance Before You Pay for the Name.

Before paying a premium for a national window brand, compare what you are actually buying. Window performance can be measured through design pressure, air infiltration, water resistance, structural performance, and energy efficiency.

GCR selects replacement windows based on tested performance and the installation details required to make them perform in your home, not simply the name printed on the window.

GCR brings something different to window replacement. Our experience includes field testing installed window systems for air and water penetration and evaluating window and building enclosure failures. We understand how windows perform outside of a showroom and what can cause even an expensive window to fail after installation.

Our installations focus on proper flashing integration, air sealing, and long-term durability to help protect against leaks, drafts, and moisture damage.

REAL WORLD WINDOW PERFORMANCE

How Do Replacement Windows Actually Compare?

Published Test Data. Real Field Experience.

Before paying a premium for a national window brand, compare what you are actually buying. Window performance can be measured through standardized testing for structural pressure, water penetration, air infiltration, and energy efficiency.

GCR combines published manufacturer performance data with real world field experience testing installed window systems for air and water penetration. The photo shown here is from field testing of an Andersen window installation.

Our goal is not to tell homeowners that one brand is always better than another. It is to show the measurable performance so you can decide where your money provides the most value.

Our Value Window Does Not Mean Value Performance

The GCR Value Window is selected to provide homeowners with strong tested performance without paying primarily for a national brand name. In the published configurations compared above, the GCR Value Window provides higher pressure and water resistance ratings and lower air infiltration than Pella's standard baseline replacement window.

Performance Without Sacrificing Design

The GCR Value and Performance Window options are available in a wide range of sizes, styles, colors, glass packages, grille patterns, and specialty shapes. From traditional double hung windows to picture windows, sliders, geometric shapes, and specialty configurations, we can tailor the window package to the design and performance needs of your home. Choose from multiple interior and exterior finishes, decorative grille options, privacy and tinted glass, tempered safety glass, and energy efficient glass packages.

You don't have to choose between performance, appearance, and value.

What Do These Ratings Mean?

Design Pressure: Indicates the pressure load the window is rated to resist. Higher ratings indicate greater resistance to wind and other pressure loads.

Water Resistance: Higher is better. This represents the pressure differential used during laboratory water penetration testing. Higher test pressures represent more demanding test conditions.

Air Infiltration: Lower is better. This measures the amount of air passing through the window assembly under specified laboratory test conditions.

Laboratory ratings are only part of window performance. Proper sizing, fastening, flashing, perimeter air sealing, insulation, and integration with the wall assembly all affect how a replacement window performs after installation.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have several questions in your mind regarding window replacement cost, repair service, and more, we have you covered.

What types of windows do you install?

We install vinyl, fiberglass, double-hung, casement, picture, sliding, bay, bow, and custom window systems for homes throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts communities. We also install impact-resistant and energy-efficient windows designed for higher wind-load performance in coastal areas.

Windows with failed seals, drafts, rot, difficult operation, water intrusion, or damaged framing may require replacement. In some cases, localized repairs, flashing corrections, or trim replacement may resolve the issue. We evaluate both the window and surrounding building envelope conditions before recommending repairs or replacement.

Our installation process includes removal of existing windows, inspection of framing and surrounding substrates, flashing and waterproofing integration, air sealing, insulation, installation of the new window system, and final interior and exterior sealing. Proper waterproofing and flashing details are critical to long-term performance.

Window replacement costs vary depending on window size, type, glazing options, installation conditions, and whether full-frame replacement or insert replacement is required. We provide detailed estimates based on existing site conditions and project scope.

Yes. We offer window tinting and solar control film options that help reduce glare, UV exposure, and heat gain while improving interior comfort and energy efficiency.

Impact-resistant windows are designed with reinforced framing and specialized glazing systems that improve resistance to wind pressure and flying debris. These systems are commonly used in coastal applications and can improve long-term durability during severe weather events.

Insert replacement keeps the existing frame in place while replacing the sash and operational components. Full-frame replacement removes the entire window assembly and allows inspection of framing, flashing, insulation, and waterproofing conditions behind the existing window.

Yes. Improper flashing, missing sealants, poor air sealing, or incorrect waterproofing integration can allow water intrusion into surrounding wall assemblies. Over time this can contribute to rot, mold, insulation damage, and interior moisture issues.
